TUCSON, AZ – See The Good in Southern Arizona by following us on Facebook at “Arizona Mormon News.”Since the inception of the locally managed website, there have been requests from around the country to offer a Facebook page so members and friends can be alerted to stories of regional interest. “Arizona Mormon News” provides that Facebook presence so users can be informed of news stories and be able to give personal feedback.
The website, just one week old, has been designed for use by the Southern Arizona Public Affairs Council to distribute information to the media and the public about upcoming events and stories of personal interest about members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David Hoefferle, Director of Public Affairs for the multi-stake public affairs council, said, “We’re excited about the possibilities. The Facebook site is also going to open up opportunities for our members to inform their friends about happenings of regional interest. While the website is not officially approved by the Church, it has been allowed as a means to fulfill our responsibilities.”
Stephanie Ashcraft, the Media Relations Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the 13 stake council, responsible for the sites, agrees that “the website and Facebook pages are wonderful tools to learn about stories that have usually gone untold. “This is our chance to let our lights shine to the world, letting our friends truly ‘see the good in Southern Arizona.'”This is our chance to let our lights shine to the world, letting our friends truly ‘see the good in Southern Arizona.’” She said it was designed under the guidance of photographer Spencer Boerup, of Tucson. Steve Riggs, a videographer with years of professional news experience, will be responsible for approving all videos on the sites.
There are approximately 45,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ in the area covered by the Southern Arizona Public Affairs Council including 13 Stakes from Tucson to Silver City, New Mexico. Members are encouraged to share the website and Facebook pages with their friends.
