The communities of Central and Thatcher, Arizona joined together for a “Preparedness Fair” on the morning of Saturday, June 8th. There were multiple booths that featured instruction and information ranging from preserving and preparing food, to ways to store water and fish for eating. Members of the Central 1st and 2nd wards and the Thatcher 5th ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints combined to make the morning a learning experience for the community.
Activities for the children included making bracelets from rope to tasting food cooked in solar ovens. Classes were scheduled to teach those interested to make solar ovens and portable stoves.
Sharon Watson of Central organized the event which included exhibitors from the Gila Valley and Mesa to teach members how to be prepared in case of an emergency in the area. She said, “This was an opportunity to create a unified plan for our community in case of a disaster. We never know when hard times will hit. Joining together gives peace of mind to all of us.”
