Veterans and active military from across the Gila Valley united together on the morning of July 4th to ride on a float in the annual community parade in downtown Safford, Arizona. More than 30 veterans rode on the float sponsored by the local stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to show support for the men and women of the community who proudly served their country.
Jessica Sandeno, of Safford, helped organize the veterans and said, “Bridges have been built not only between friends of other faiths around our community, but the stake boundaries have been crossed and we truly could feel the spirit of unity between the members of our church.”
Thousands of people clapped and shouted as the float passed by honoring those veterans who faithfully served to help preserve our freedom. The veterans represented World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, along with members who served in the National Guard and military stations around the country.
