The Tucson North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought ancient Bethlehem to life on December 14 & 15. Hundreds of visitors of many denominations paid homage to the birth of Christ at the stake center at 939 West Chapala Road.
Under the direction of Ronda Dalton, the cast and crew spent weeks in preparation, which was apparent. Depictions were heartfelt, and costuming was exquisite and appropriate to the characters. Beautiful music accompanied each scene. The participants performed three enactments per night to the delight of their full audiences.
Guests witnessed shepherds tending their live flocks, and were enamored with the live calf and donkey. They followed Mary and Joseph as they searched for an inn and were finally offered a humble stable in which to rest. They witnessed Joseph and Mary cradling the Christ Child in a manger, and an angel declaring good tidings to the shepherds. Finally, the shepherds and the Magi came to behold their Savior and present Him with gifts.
Feelings of delight, awe and wonderment pervaded each performance, for which attendees expressed their appreciation. For those who witnessed it, the “reason for the season” is clear this Christmas.
