Located on the charming Main Street of downtown Safford, Arizona, is Sorellas Elite Fashion, a women’s clothing and accessory boutique. “Sorellas” in Italian for “sisters,” is appropriate, since the business was started by sisters Rachel Peck and Emma McBride, and their mother, Lynn Lewis.
From the beginning, the owners struggled to find a variety of fashionable, modest clothing. Rachel explained, “Growing up we have always been taught by our parents and Young Women leaders the importance of modesty. Now that we are grown women and have our own clothing store, we saw the lack of modest apparel available to be purchased and knew that we weren’t the only individuals that were having a hard time finding appropriate, modest clothes.”
Emma soon convinced Rachel and Lynn that they should design their own unique brand. “We could create our own clothing that is fashion forward, stylish and still modest,” Emma insisted. They decided to put special focus on the items that seemed hardest to find: dresses and skirts of modest lengths, and tops with sleeves. JUNIEblake launched its first spring line in March 2012.
As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the women were inspired by their beliefs. “The gospel is a constant reminder of who we really are—daughters of our Heavenly Father,” said Lynn. “We feel that we can be beautiful and known for who we are on the inside. We design our line to be stylish and classy while not sacrificing the modesty part. We can still be stylish, beautiful AND modest!”
All three owners are busy moms. Lynn, from the 6th Ward, Thatcher Stake, is the mother of 4 boys and 2 girls, and grandmother of nine. Rachel, of 4th Ward, Thatcher Stake, has 3 sons and a daughter. Emma, of Wilcox 2nd Ward, St. David Stake, recently had her second son.
The clothing line is named after Rachel’s daughter Junie and Emma’s son Graham Blake. In Emma’s words, “We wanted to make the brand sentimental to us. What could be more sentimental than our kids?!”
Rachel and Emma feel very fortunate to be able to do most of their work from home. They both commented on how blessed they are to have supportive husbands and other family members to help with their kids when they need to travel for business.
In a world filled with false perceptions about women and their appearances, JUNIEblake’s creators feel it is important to provide clothing that helps women of all ages honor their bodies and feel beautiful without sacrificing personal standards.
